Working Bee at BA 47 this Saturday, plus updates from Council

Hi All,

Since the inclement weather wiped out the last two Bushcare working bees at Peregian and Marcus, I am going to head down to the Tristania Carpark (Beach Access 47) next Saturday, May 28, for a 7.30 am start to weed to the north of the area we planted adjacent to the stairs at our last Marcus working bee. Any extra hands would be much appreciated.

Update on Polystrene Clean Up on Eastern Beaches:

From Shaun Walsh, Acting Environmental Manager

  • Yesterday Council Environment crews were collecting large chunks of polystyrene exposed on the Eastern Beaches from the most recent weather event, particularly Beach Access 40.  There still many small fragments exposed along the dunal system
  • The industrial vacuum system is now planned to deploy on Tuesday 31st May and Wednesday 1st June, initially focusing on the Beach Access 40, and subsequently around Beach Access 58. We finally have a good weather and tide forecast for these dates to allow safe deployment.  You are welcome to inspect the machinery in operation on Tuesday morning from 9am at Beach Access 40
  • Council continues to be very appreciative of community efforts to assist in the clean-up of debris on our beaches arising from the SEQ flood
Council Budget Public Consultation:

It’s Budget time for Noosa Council. As you can imagine there have been extra pressures on the Budget due to Covid and other issues. The recent unanticipated clean up operation of the debris caused by the dislodged barges washed up the coast from the Brisbane River after the floods and rain demonstrate the importance of making budgetary provisions for environmental management going forward. That’s just one example of how the changing environmental conditions are likely to affect our coast line.

The Council needs budget for resources to deal with with river systems, fire, floods, coastal erosion and weed management. I encourage you to go to the the following link and ensure that the Council knows that the residents of Noosa put a high priority funding to maintaining the environment at a time when there a great challenges.

Your Say Noosa portal on Monday  https://yoursay.noosa.qld.gov.au , attendance at the public information sessions, and enquiries to elected representatives.

Best wishes,

Jude
