It’s the start of another year of restoring the coastal dune vegetation to its more native state. Not that there has been a complete hiatus in coastal dune restoration over the Christmas and New Year break. Planting carried out of a newly cleared area on the dunes south of BA48 and work has continued with the help of Landcare contractors to remove more of the Asparagus Fern there and release the native vegetation, plus, it has been necessary to do quite a bit of watering of the planted seedlings to try and ensure their survival with so hot and dry months through December and January.
But we will meet down along BA49 this Saturday, the 4th February. Let’s start at 07:00 as it is going to be a hot and humid day.
Although our earlier work on removing weeds down BA49 is holding up well, there has a some resurgence of Asparagus Fern south and north of the boardwalk beyond the water hole. Plus there’s a lot of Gloriosa Lily that could at least be deflowered and Para Grass on the north side of the boardwalk. I also have some left over seedlings that we can plant down towards the foredune where we cleared Singapore Daisy last year, which is now creeping back and elsewhere near the creek and needs to be dealt with.
So, there is much to do.
