The Noosa Chapter of the Roving Restorers will be down at BA49, Peregian Creek, this Friday, the 29th instant, to help clear out some returning pesky weeds. The group will start work at 08:30, although we usually gather about 08:20 and work until 11:00, when there will be smoko. I am not sure how many of the RR group will be on hand; usually we manage an average of about eight, mainly landowners and other interested bush bashers from the hinterland where most of the RR work has been undertaken since we started last year.
The RR group is managed by Noosa and District Landcare with a grant from Noosa Council and we meet every second Friday on a designated property, usually often one which is part of the Land for Wildlife Programme.
However, this is not an exclusive gathering and any from our Peregian Creek Bush Restoration group or from elsewhere are welcome to come and work as part of the team on Friday.
I would like to work on Singapore Daisy in the creek, but that requires gum boots. So, we shall focus on cutting and swabbing Broad leaf Peppers in the swale south of the boardwalk, cutting and grubbing out Para Grass along the boardwalk in the fore dune area, and removing Singapore Daisy from the fore dune to the south of the BA49 entrance. We shall also be trialing a drill and inject system of poisoning the Broad Leaf Peppers, using a few selected trees. This method shows more promise than just cutting and swabbing, when there is often a lot of regrowth and suckering.
